👋 About

Hey, I’m Al,

I write The Young Investor for people who are interesting in managing real money in a real world that doesn’t come with a manual.

I am surprised by how much of our lives revolve around making, saving, or passing on money.

Yet! Beyond the basics of personal finance, there is rarely a time, place, or person that teaches us how to manage money effectively.

Most finance content is selling something or pretending it has all the answers. I started this newsletter because I couldn’t find anything that felt honest, useful, and entertaining.

I’ve worked in finance. I’ve made good calls, bad ones, and lived through the emotional rollercoaster most investing advice conveniently leaves out. What I learned is that smart people still make bad decisions, often because they’re listening to the wrong people, or following the wrong incentives.

This newsletter is for those who’ve started to see through the noise:

  • Maybe you’re building your first portfolio

  • Or now find yourself managing your family’s.

  • Maybe you’ve lived through volatility or bad advice, and realized the Wall Street Journal headlines aren’t going to make you a better investor.

If you want to potentially save years of mistakes and pitfalls, and want insights from someone who's been exactly where you are, then keep reading

You won’t find stock tips here.

But you will find the ideas, people, and frameworks that the best investors and thinkers are actually paying attention to.

I hope you enjoy the content and it helps further your personal journey as an investor 🦉
